Discover how to set movable metal and wood type to produce a unique letterpress printed piece just as Johannes Gutenberg did in 1452.
Set a poem, a bookmark, personal stationery, or greeting card. Learn the importance of leading and how to properly adjust the line spacing of your form. Become familiar with common type sizes, word spaces and quads. Set type flush left, flush right, centered and justified. Properly tie up your form and pull a proof.
Then you will be taught about furniture, quoins, and reglets as you lock-up your form in a chase, ready for the press. You will learn how to lubricate the press, apply ink, adjust impression, set guides, and print your project on a hand or foot treadle operated Platen press.
While your beautiful printed pieces dry, you will learn to properly wash-up the press, and then explore other opportunities at Dock 2 Letterpress.
